HEAT RECORD POLICY

HEAT keeps two sets of records. One for Short Course Yards (SCY) and one for Long Course Meters (LCM). Due the inherent inaccuracy of converting between courses we do not convert from one course to another…. For example, we don’t convert times from a Short Course Meter pool into Short Course Yard times.

The only swims that “count” towards a record are those swam for HEAT, or as a HEAT member participating on a Lake Erie Swimming Zone Team, at a USA Swimming sanctioned meet.

Events swum at summer leagues like (MOSL, AMSA…etc) do NOT count as records because of the inconsistency in which those leagues are officiated and timed. Similarly, events swum as part of a High School team do not count towards HEAT records

Finally, relay lead-offs, and lead-off legs of individual events, are considered for records. For example, an athlete that swims a 1000 freestyle event CAN set a new team record for the 500 freestyle if their 500 split is faster than the current record.

While our software, Team Manager, analyzes each meet to determine if a new team record has been set there are times where we “miss” a record… this is especially true when it comes to looking at lead-off legs of individual events because there’s an extra step we have to perform to include those swims.

If anyone thinks their swimmer has set a new team record and it is not announced on the website they should contact Coach Matt for verification.
